This dua is recited after the third takbeer of Namaz-e-Janazah for any deceased person who had reached puberty (bulugh), whether male or female, married or unmarried. In Hanafi fiqh, the dividing line is maturity, not marital status.
“O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, whomever You keep alive among us, let him live upon Islam, and whomever You cause to die among us, let him die upon faith.”
This dua deliberately includes no name and no personal praise for the deceased. It is a collective supplication offered on behalf of the whole Ummah, covering the living and the dead, those present and absent, young and old, male and female. Its second half is actually directed at the living, asking that life remain upon Islam and that death come upon faith.
May Allah let us live upon Islam and die upon faith. Ameen.
